South Windsor resident Carolyn Carey tells Patch why she should be elected to the town council.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — The 2023 municipal election season is heating up in South Windsor, and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.
South Windsor Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

What is your occupation? Retired, Health Insurance Exec. Director, 45 years, most recent company Aetna, CVS Health

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective? No
Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?
I have lived in South Windsor for 20 years and love the town and the sense of community. I want to assist in managing our budget and guiding smart growth.

If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?
The tax and sewer fee increases this year were high, and a surprise to residents.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Smart growth, while we may not be able to prevent growth we can guide it. As an alternate on the planning and zoning board, I saw how the P&Z by listening to the residents and making changes to regulations can impact future growth.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
45 years of leadership experience across three companies, leading teams, successfully managing budgets, identifying opportunities to reduce costs and working across organizations. As a 10 year member of the Human Relations commission, an alternate on board of assessment appeals and Planning and zoning, I have experience with town organizations.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
You always need to grow and learn. We have the opportunity to learn in many ways, especially from listening to the residents of South Windsor.
