Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?
Yes, I served on the South Windsor Board of Education from 1997-2011; and the South Windsor Town Council from 2011-2021. A total of 24 years as an elected official
Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?
To continue to give back to my community and working to make a positive difference in town government. There are still issues that need to be reviewed and resolved for our residents and businesses.
Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is \_\_\_, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Taxes and the rising cost of living. I believe close and careful review of administrative and operational expenses should be done. My governmental background and experience with municipal budgeting is critical to finding ways to reduce costs and save money.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I am not associated with either of the two national parties. The new United Community Party brings a choice to voters and is focused on South Windsor. Yet I bring forth my experience in many facets of governmental operations. Knowing how to work harmoniously with a variety of individual personalities and maintaining a professional partnership with my colleagues. Knowing how to listen to the voters and bring forth creative yet viable ideas.
If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?
I believe anyone running for office does so to make a difference and to help their community, I’m not sure “failed” is the correct term. I do feel that several issues facing South Windsor can be dealt with in a more knowledgeable and collaborative approach.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Our platform identifies five specific areas in which we place our values. 1) Community Involvement; 2) No Divisive Politics; 3) Support Education; 4) Advocate for Land Preservation; 5) Control Spending.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have personally worked South Windsor through 14 Board of Education and 11 town government budgets; served on a plethora of committees and commissions for both Board of Education and the town government.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Always make a decision after a careful review of the issue at hand. There is nothing worse than not making a decision.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I’m very proud of my volunteer activity in South Windsor for over 35 years. From PTO president, to Operation Graduation to the South Windsor Community Foundation to my elected duties, I have always and still do enjoy volunteering. It is my way of giving back and helping my neighbors. We have a vibrant community because our friends, families and neighbors step up to make a positive impact every day.
