Vehicle Strikes Hydrant, Flips In Early-Morning South Windsor Crash

Officials said crews from the Department of Transportation were called in to address​ icy conditions on Route 74.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Emergency crews responded early Wednesday to a rollover crash near the Ellington town line.

The South Windsor Fire Department said ice had formed across Route 74 around 4:30 a.m., when the vehicle left the road, struck a fire hydrant, flipped over, and came to rest on its roof.

The driver, who was alone in the car, climbed out without help and was not injured, according to officials.

The road remained open, though traffic was slowed as crews worked, and the town said the state Department of Transportation was called in to address the icy conditions on Ellington Road.

South Windsor police said the crash scene has since been cleared and the vehicle has been towed away.
