NYC Man Snagged After Fake Bills Passed In Stafford, Willington

A man tried to pass fake big bills in three Tolland County gas stations, state police said.

STAFFORD, CT — A New York City man remained in custody this week on a pair of six-figure bonds in a counterfeit money case involving stores in Stafford and Willington, judicial system records show.

Shakir Saleem Cole, 35, of The Bronx, has been charged with first-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny on one warrant and with two more counts each of the same charges on another.

He failed to post $100,000 bonds in each case and is being held with a court date of April 28, judicial system records show.

He is accused of trying to pass a fake $100 bill for $15 of gas at the Eagle Mart at 2 Spring St. in Stafford on March 26, according to warrants.

A day earlier, he tried to pass fake bills at the Mobile and Shell Stations on Ruby Road in Willington, according to warrants.
