One Killed In Fiery Route 44 Crash In Pomfret: State Police
The one car accident happened Thursday night.
POMFRET, CT — A motorist was killed Thursday night after the Subaru Crosstrek the person was driving crashed off of Mashamoquet Road, or Route 44.
Police as of Friday morning had not released the identity of the driver.
The accident happened at the intersection of Route 44 and Paine Road around 9:07 p.m., according to police.

The vehicle had been traveling eastbound on Route 44 when it crossed over the double yellow lines into the westbound shoulder, struck a tree, continued down an embankment and came to a rest on its roof. The vehicle then caught fire, police said.
The Subaru is owned by a Willington resident.

Formal identification of the deceased operator is pending with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
