Snowmobile Crash Turns Fatal At Stafford Camp Resort

STAFFORD, CT — A snowmobile driver was killed in an accident at a lakeside campground-style resort in Stafford Wednesday, state police said.

The incident took place at 3:23 p.m. when state police arrived at the scene — Sun Valley Resort at 51 Old Springfield Road — they found that a person had been ejected from the snowmobile she was operating, according to an incident report.

The woman, identified as Jamie Gallicchio, 48, of Ellington, sustained what police described as "serious, life-threatening injuries" and was first transported via ambulance to Johnson Memorial Hospital and then flown via Life Star helicopter to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, according to an incident report.

Gallicchio later succumbed to injuries at St. Francis and was pronounced dead at 6:52 p.m., according to an incident report.

Gallicchio's next of kin was notified, state police said. Gallicchio's passenger, a 45-year-old man from West Springfield, MA, sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment, according to an incident report.

State police said that, so far, only the snowmobile passenger witnessed the crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have information pertaining to it, can call Trooper Nicholas Miranda at the Troop C barracks — 860-896-3200 — or by email at nicholas.miranda@ct.gov.
