A revered figure in Stafford law enforcement circles has died.

STAFFORD, CT — Stafford is mourning the loss of a revered retired police dog.

The Stafford Resident Trooper's Office Tuesday announced the passing of retired canine officer Loki. Loki passed away peacefully with handler, Sgt. James Kodzis, by his side, the announcement said.

"K9 Loki served the Town of Stafford with honor and loyalty," the announcement said.

Loki was a fixture in town during his career, not only on the job, but at community events, and demonstrations.

"K9 Loki was a loyal friend and a cherished member of the Stafford Police Department family," the announcement said.

State police also extended their condolences.

"Troop C extends our heartfelt condolences to the Stafford Resident Trooper’s Office on the loss of retired K9 Loki. His service, loyalty, and the bond he shared with Sgt. Kodzis will never be forgotten. Rest easy, K9 Loki — we've got the watch from here."
