Holiday Impacts Announced For West Hartford Offices, Schools

Christmas is Wednesday, Dec. 25, and New Year's Day is Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, with several town and school impacts announced.

Town of West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Town of West Hartford is wishing its residents a happy (and expanded) holiday season next week.

Wednesday, Dec. 25, is Christmas and Hanukkah, while Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, is New Year's Day, with the town announcing a few changes to the town and schools' hours of operation.

Trash Collection
Since Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Wednesday, trash, metal, and "A" week recycling collection will be delayed by one day after the holiday.

Wednesday's area will be picked up on Thursday, with each subsequent day postponed by one day.

Place barrels at the curb by 6 a.m.

Municipal buildings/sites

Municipal offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, in observance of Christmas and New Year's Day.

The MDC recreational facilities will also have limited hours for the holidays.

The reservoirs located at 1420 Farmington Ave. and off Route 44/Albany Avenue will close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

They will be closed on Christmas Day but will be open on New Year’s Day.

West Hartford Public Schools

West Hartford Public Schools will have its holiday break from Monday, Dec. 23, to Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

Students will return to school on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.

West Hartford Public Libraries

All three libraries will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

On Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24, the Noah Webster Library and the Faxon Library will close at 2 p.m. and Bishops Corner Library will be closed all day.

All three libraries will close at 4:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Public skating

The Veterans Memorial Skating Rink will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but will be open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Public skating sessions are offered all week, Dec. 26-Jan. 1, 2025. Check out the schedule.

Public swimming

The holiday hours for the Cornerstone Aquatics Center are: Tuesday, Dec 24: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Dec 25: Closed; Dec 31: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Jan 1: Closed.

Rockledge and Buena Vista golf courses

The golf shop is open for holiday gift shopping, including gift certificates, gift cards, golf clubs, apparel, and more.

It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. until Tuesday, Dec. 23.

Rockledge Golf Club and Buena Vista Golf Course are open for recreational use during the winter months.

For everyone’s safety, golfing is not allowed while the course is closed.

The trails are available for jogging, walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing daily from dawn to dusk. Click here for a map.

Residents may bring their dogs on the course but must follow the rules for all parks and school grounds year-round.

West Hartford Recycling Center

The Yard Waste and Recycling Center will be closed in observance of the holidays on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

The facility will close on Saturdays after Dec. 20 and resume on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The Recycling Center's hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. (The last vehicle accepted is at 2:45 PM.)

Special cardboard/e-waste dropoff

The West Hartford Department of Public Works encourages residents to drop off extra holiday cardboard, boxes, and electronics to support the town's ongoing effort to reduce waste and promote recycling in our community.

A cardboard and e-waste collection will be held for West Hartford residents only on Friday, Dec. 27, and Monday, Dec. 30, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting, at the West Hartford Yard Waste and Recycling Center, 25 Brixton St.

Christmas Tree Collection
West Hartford's DPW will make two town-wide sweeps to collect Christmas trees.

The collection runs from Monday, Jan. 6, to Friday, Jan.17, 2025.
