Juneteenth In West Hartford, What You Need To Know

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Thursday is Juneteenth, a federal holiday, with many towns releasing information on what is open and closed.

In West Hartford, the town hall, public libraries, community centers, and senior centers are closed on the federal holiday.

The collection of trash, recyclable items, and bulky and metal waste remains on schedule, West Hartford officials said.

Schools are already out for summer.

Juneteenth recognizes the official end of slavery in the United States, with the last slaves being freed in Texas on June 19, 1865.

That date has come to be known as "Juneteenth," and it is now a national holiday.
