West Hartford Announces Thanksgiving Weekend Closures

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Thanksgiving 2024 is this week, with many area towns announcing impacts on what is closed for the annual, four-day, holiday weekend.

According to the Town of West Hartford on Tuesday, municipal offices, senior centers, the community center, recreation facilities, libraries, and the West Hartford Yard Waste & Recycling Center will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 28.

West Hartford Public Schools are closed on Thursday and Friday.

West Hartford Reservoir, located at 1420 Farmington Ave., and Reservoir #6, located off Route 44/Albany Avenue in West Hartford, will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Trash, Recycling, and Leaf Pick-up Delays

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, trash, “A” week recycle, leaf bag, and bulky/metal collections will be delayed one day after the holiday.

The normal Thursday collection will be done on Friday, Nov. 29, and Friday’s collection will be done on Saturday, Nov. 30.

No other collection days are affected during this holiday week or the following week.

Library hours on Nov. 27

All three of West Hartford's public libraries will close at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Friday Closings Nov. 29

The following facilities will also be closed on Friday, Nove. 29:

• Elmwood Senior Center
• Elmwood Community Center
• Bishops Corner Senior Center
• West Hartford Public Schools administrative offices

What's Open Friday, Nov. 29

On Friday, Nov. 29, the following facilities will be open:

• Noah Webster Library, 20 S. Main St., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Bishops Corner and Faxon libraries are open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• West Hartford Town Hall, 50 S. Main St., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• West Hartford Yard Waste & Recycling Center, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon.
• Recreation facilities, including the Skating Rink, Westmoor Park, and Cornerstone Aquatics Center, will be open. Visit their websites for hours of operation.
