West Hartford's New Year's Impacts, What You Need To Know

The Town of West Hartford has reminded residents of New Year's holiday openings and closings.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Due to the New Year's Day holidays, there are a few changes in the hours of operation in the Town of West Hartford.

While West Hartford schools remain closed until Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, other municipal impacts have been announced.

Trash Collection

Since New Year’s Day falls on a Wednesday, trash, metal, and "A" week recycling collection will be delayed by one day after the holiday.

Wednesday's area will be picked up on Thursday, with each subsequent day postponed by one day. Place barrels at the curb by 6 a.m.

Municipal buildings

Municipal offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, in observance of New Year's Day.

The MDC recreational facilities will also have limited hours for the holiday.

The reservoirs at 1420 Farmington Ave. and off Route 44/Albany Avenue will close at noon on New Year’s Eve.

They will be open on New Year’s Day.

West Hartford Public Libraries

All three libraries will close early at 4:30 PM on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, and will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

Public skating

The Veterans Memorial Skating Rink will be open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. .

Recycling Center

The West Hartford Yard Waste and Recycling Center will be closed in observance of the holidays on Jan. 1, 2025.

The facility is now closed on Saturdays until Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The recycling center's hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. (The last vehicle accepted is at 2:45 p.m.)
