Repair Plans at East Windsor's Springdale Cemetery Back on Track

Project is delayed when state Department of Transportation misplaced documents from the town.

The repairs to the wetland violation at Springdale Cemetery are expected to move forward this spring, according to town officials.

Leonard Norton, East Windsor’s public works director, told the Board of Selectmen Tuesday that the state’s Department of Transportation caused the project to be delayed by misplacing some paperwork.

The project, which is expected to cost $85,000, is required after the slope failure due to the October snowstorm in 2011 as well as “violations from the East Windsor Cemetery Association dumping over a terrace slope location on the westerly portion of the property,” Assistant Town Planner Robin Newton wrote in a memorandum to First Selectman Denise Menard.

Approvals from the state were required because it was determined some of the work must be done on DOT property.

The state finally gave approval for the project, for which the town should be eligible for 75 percent reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to Norton.

“We are on track to get this done,” said Norton, adding that the project will be going out to bid soon.
