1 Dead, 5 Injured After Shooting In DC Neighborhood: Police

WASHINGTON, DC — One person has died and five others were hospitalized after a shooting in Columbia Heights Thursday evening.

Police responded to an apartment building in the 1300 block of Columbia Road at around 10 p.m. to a report of gunshots and found six victims, one of whom was pronounced dead, said Stuart Emerman, Third District Commander for the Metropolitan Police Department.

The other five victims -- four men and one woman -- were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from non-critical to critical, Emerman said.

"Right now we don't have a whole lot to work on," he said, adding that police are collecting witness statements and reviewing video surveillance footage in the area.

The shooting happened outside in a courtyard area. He said it was possible that it was a drive-by shooting.
