• DC man to serve 7 years for armed gas station carjacking (dcnewsnow.com) — A Washington man has been sentenced to seven years in prison, plus five years of supervised release, for an armed carjacking at a Northeast gas station in October 2024. Prosecutors say he brandished a gun, later posted the stolen car on Instagram, and was caught after a reckless chase near the Capitol and RFK Stadium.
   

• Nationals announce 31-Year-Old Ani Kilambi as new general manager (fox5dc.com) — Washington baseball fans just saw a major front-office shakeup, as the Washington Nationals introduced 31-year-old Ani Kilambi as their new general manager, giving the team the youngest leadership group in Major League Baseball. Kilambi and president of baseball operations Paul Toboni say the franchise’s rebuild will hinge on fresh ideas, collaboration, and accountability rather than age.
   

• Congress leaves for holidays after zero progress on federal funding (dailyfly.com) — In Washington, D.C., Congress has left town for the holidays without advancing most of the 2026 federal spending bills, setting up a frantic January sprint before funding expires January 30. With nine appropriations bills still unfinished and both parties divided over strategy, lawmakers may again lean on stopgap measures, keeping agencies and D.C.-based federal workers in limbo.
