2 Dead In Unrelated Weekend Shootings In Southeast D.C.: Police

Police are investigating two unrelated, fatal shootings that both occurred early Sunday morning in Southeast Washington.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police are investigating two unrelated, fatal shootings that both occurred early Sunday morning in Southeast Washington.

The first shooting was reported at about 2:35 a.m. Sunday. Officers responded to the 5100 block of H St. SE for the sounds of gunshots and located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside of a vehicle. The victim was identified as Norman James, 30, of Southeast. He died on the scene, police said.

Police were then flagged down for a shooting in the 1300 block of Good Hope Rd., SE, at about 3:50 a.m. Officers found 25-year-old Omar Earl Rodgers, of Southeast, sitting in a vehicle and suffering from gunshots. Rodgers was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the D.C. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.
