5 People Rescued From Apartment Fire In Southeast

Five people escaped from an apartment building when a fire broke out in Southeast Washington early Tuesday morning.

WASHINGTON, DC — Several people escaped from the second floor of an apartment building when a fire broke out in Southeast Washington early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The blaze occurred shortly after 4 a.m. at a three-story apartment building in the 100 block of Xenia St. SE, according to DC Fire and EMS officials.

Five people used a ladder from the second floor to escape. One person suffered a minor injury, officials said. Five residents were displaced and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
