• DC police officer rushed to hospital after being hit by car on I-695 (fox5dc.com) — A D.C. police officer was hospitalized Tuesday night after being struck by a car on eastbound I‑695 just past the 3rd Street Tunnel in Washington, prompting an investigation by MPD’s Major Crash unit. The driver stayed at the scene, but officials haven’t yet explained what caused the collision or whether any charges will follow, so expect updates as police learn more.
   

• Vigil honors Edgar Cifuentes; new safety oversight measures after his death (wusa9.com) — Neighbors in Washington gathered for a vigil honoring construction worker Edgar Cifuentes, killed in a 2024 partial building collapse off V Street NW, as they pressed the city for stronger safety protections. DC’s Department of Buildings outlined new monitoring systems, inspections, and enforcement steps, while community leaders urged the DC Council to hold additional oversight hearings to ensure lasting change.
   

• Maryland mother claiming to be US citizen is detained by ICE despite citizenship documentation (dcnewsnow.com) — From Washington News Now reports that a Laurel, Maryland mother with a Maryland birth certificate remains in ICE custody after being detained in Baltimore, despite her attorneys submitting multiple records they say prove U.S. citizenship. Federal officials dispute those claims, and the woman has since been transferred between out-of-state facilities while a judge has ordered she not be removed from the country during ongoing proceedings.
