WASHINGTON, DC -- A 6-year-old boy was called the N-word and threatened at a D.C. elementary school by a white student, his grandfather said according to a report.

Fox 5 reports that Michael Eric Dyson, a prominent activist and Georgetown University professor, said a first-grader at Horace Mann Elementary School, who is white, used the racial slur against his grandson and told him he planned to get a gun.

The report indicates that D.C. Public Schools has confirmed the incident happened in the lunchroom on Tuesday as Dyson's grandson, Maxem, and another student were trying to get to the front of the line.

“How can a six-year-old kid know to call his classmate the N-word?” Dyson was quoted in the report as saying.

The school says that while they are confident in the threat, they are investigating the use of the N-word.
