Adams Morgan Movie Nights Return With Movie Meals, Doggie Night

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Adams Morgan Movie Nights, a favorite neighborhood tradition that attracts filmgoers from around the region, is in full swing for the summer.

New this year: special meals from local restaurants to take to the field, free cookies, and a new doggie-night-out service from Life of Riley for your furry friends.

On five Tuesday evenings from May 15 to June 12, grab a blanket, a friend, and eats from a neighborhood restaurant to watch films under the twinkling lights of the city. Movies are shown at dark at the Marie Reed Recreation Center at 18th and California Streets, NW.

This year’s lineup includes favorites for all ages, including the Dude (The Big Lebowski’s iconic character), Frozen Fever (from Pixar’s celebrated animated short films), and the little-known story of the female African American mathematicians at NASA during the space race (Hidden Figures). The screening of Jackie highlights the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, which took place on June 5, 1968.

The full line-up:

• May 15: Pixar Shorts collection (Featuring a selection of Pixar’s short films ranging from some of their earliest, groundbreaking work to more contemporary shorts)
• May 22: The Big Lebowski (1998)
• May 29: Hairspray (2007)
• June 5: Jackie (2016)
• June 12: Hidden Figures (2016)

Bring your chairs, kids and neighbors for a fun evening out. The Marie Reed Elementary School PTA will be selling refreshments; proceeds benefit the PTA. Insomnia Cookies will give free cookies to the first 250 film-lovers each night. Several restaurants on the surrounding blocks will be offering special “Movie Meals” packaged to go that attendees can bring to the field; visit www.adamsmorganoline.org/movie-nights/ for details.

Dogs are not allowed on the field, so your furry friends can have their own movie night at Life of Riley while you're across the street with the humans. For $25, dogs can have a play date with friends and watch a movie. Reservations are required -- space is limited to 10 small dogs and 10 big dogs. To participate, each dog owner needs to complete a registration form, bring vaccination records, and bring their dog to Life of Riley for a temperament test.
