Big Decision On Metro Hours This Week: Report

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Metro Board is moving forward with keeping current rail service hours for another year, despite objections from D.C. officials who want to see them extended, according to a report.

WTOP reports that the Board will vote on a draft resolution Thursday that would keep the current service hours through July 1, 2020.

The Metro Board had considered extending night service to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and extending Sunday service from 7a.m. to 11:30 p.m. D.C. supports the move, but Maryland, Virginia, and federal appointees are against it because it would require additional funding to extend hours. Federal agencies also are concerned extended hours would interfere with necessary maintenance.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Councilmember and Metro Board Chairman Jack Evans want service hours extended, and Evans said he would vote against the measure on Thursday, according to WTOP.
