Climate Protesters Shut Down Roads Across DC
Multiple major roads and intersections have been shut down in D.C. Monday due to a climate protest.

WASHINGTON, DC — Arrests have been made and traffic has been extreme in D.C. on Monday morning, with climate protesters making good on a pledge to shut down major roads and intersections in the city.
Dupont Circle, 17th and K Streets NW, and New York Avenue were just a few of the major choke points hit by activists protesting inaction on the issue of climate change.
D.C. police arrested protesters who closed down New York Avenue, according to WTOP, which added that police were trying to clear nine key intersections as of 9:27 a.m.

Climate change activists have been planning for a while to sow mayhem at rush hour on D.C. streets on Monday. DCist reported that a coalition of activists will use the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York as a springboard for the action, aimed at disrupting the morning rush hour on Sept. 23.
Groups that are protesting include Black Lives Mater DMV, Friends of the Earth Action, Code Pink, and other organizations, according to the report.

There also was a student strike and protest Sept. 20 involving a march from the White House to the Capitol. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg joined protesters for that event.
