Washington D.C. Weather Forecast: Hot Temperatures Get Worse Saturday

An excessive heat warning Saturday for most of the region. Heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses expected in Washington, D.C.

You thought it was hot Friday?! It's about to get worse this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

An excessive heat warning is in effect from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday across the D.C. region.

The heat index, or "feels like" temperature, is expected to reach or exceed 110 degrees on Saturday, according to the weather service.

The heat index will reach 110 degrees by 4 p.m., with the temperatures near 100 degrees.

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously high temperatures is possible. People in the area should prepare for extreme temperatures.

Heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses are expected, according to the weather service.

Sunday will be another hot one across the region, with the heat index near 105 degrees and temperatures in the high 90s. Slightly cooler temperatures into the workweek, but it will feel like the mid-90s.

Heat tips include:

  • Rescheduling strenuous activity to early morning or evening
  • Knowing the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
  • Wearing light and loose fitting clothing
  • Drinking plenty of water

Those working outside should take frequent breaks in the shade or in an air-conditioned environment. "Heat stroke is an emergency - call 911," the weather service warns.

Friday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 99. Heat index values as high as 107. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 107. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
