DC Police Arrest 7 On Robbery Charges

Metro police said they had a busy week arresting men and boys they accuse of armed robbery in separate incidents.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Multiple people were arrested in recent robbery cases in D.C, according to a release from the Metropolitan Police Department. The seven arrests span several days and four districts.

First District

On Friday, Dec. 27, police arrested Kenneth Phipps, 25, of no fixed address, on a charge of armed robbery from an incident that day in the 700 block of North Capitol Street NE. Around 8:25 p.m., police say, he showed a knife and demanded a victim's property. Police responded and arrested him.

Third District

On Saturday, Dec. 28, police arrested two teenage boys, ages 13 and 14, on charges of armed robbery with a sharp object from an incident that day in the 3100 block of 13th Street NW. Police also arrested a 15-year-old boy on Jan. 2 in on charges in the same case. Police say around 3 p.m. on Dec. 28, the three approached a victim, whom one of them stabbed with the sharp object, stole their property and ran away. Authorities are still investigating.

Fifth District

On Tuesday, Dec. 31, police say a 13-year-old boy was arrested on a charge of robbery by force and violence from an incident that day in the 2100 block of I Street NE. Police say around 7 p.m. that day, the boy assaulted the victim and took their property, and was then arrested by responding officers.

Sixth District

On Tuesday, Dec. 31, police arrested a Jerald Rich, 22, of Northeast DC on a warrant issued for two charges of armed robbery with a gun. Police say on Thursday, Dec. 12, around 9:40 a.m., Rich and another suspect robbed a victim with the gun in the 5200 block of E Street SE. The other case, police say, involved Rich and another suspect, both with guns, accused of robbing a victim in the 5100 block of F Street SE.

On Wednesday, Jan. 1, police arrested Bernard Smith, 30, on a charge of attempted armed robbery from an incident that day in the 3700 block of Benning Road NE. Police say around 5:10 a.m., he showed a handgun and demanded a victim give him their property. Instead, the victim ran away and police were able to arrest Smith.
