Deer Dies After Falling Through Tidal Basin Ice (Photos)
A brave attempt by D.C. rescuers was not in time for a deer that wandered onto an iced-over Tidal Basin.

WASHINGTON, DC -- A deer that fell through the ice in the Tidal Basin did not survive, despite a valiant rescue attempt.
D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted at 10:27 a.m. that they were on the scene at the Tidal Basin where Special Ops personnel were able to retrieve a deer that had fallen through the ice.
Unfortunately, it was not a happy ending for the deer, which did not survive the extremely cold water.
