Donald Trump And Mexican President Speak, After All
The presidents are still at odds over payment of Trump's border wall.
A day after they sparred on Twitter over payment of a proposed wall on the United States' southern border, President Trump and Mexico President Enrique Peña Nieto spoke by phone for more than an hour Friday morning, the White House said.
Trump told reporters Friday afternoon that he had a "nice phone call" with Peña Nieto. "We'll be negotiating and we'll see what happens," Trump said.
A statement from the White House called the conversation "productive and constructive" but noted that "both presidents recognize their clear and very public differences of positions" about the proposed wall.

Mexico's readout about the call said the men agreed to not discuss the issue publicly. That assertion, though, was absent from the White House's statement.
On Thursday, Trump and Peña Nieto disagreed about who cancelled their planned, in-person meeting.

Trump threatened in a series of early morning tweets to cancel the meeting if Peña Nieto didn't agree to pay for the wall. A few hours later, Peña Nieto said the meeting was off. Trump's administration, though, said the decision to cancel the meeting was mutual.
Speaking in a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Trump reiterated his concern about America's relationship with its southern neighbor.
"The United States cannot continue to lose vast amounts of business, vast amounts of companies, and millions and millions of people losing their jobs. That won’t happen with me," Trump sad.
He added: “The border is soft and weak and drugs are pouring in, and I’m not going to let that happen."
