GMU Student Dies In Car Crash In Northeast: Police

A 23-year-old George Mason University student was killed after she was struck by a car in Northeast Washington, police said.

WASHINGTON, DC — A 23-year-old George Mason University student was killed in a car crash in Northeast Washington, police said.

The accident occurred at about 9:58 p.m. Friday in the 700 Block of Kenilworth Terrace NE.

Police said a 2000 Mercedes 500 was traveling in the intersection of Kenilworth Terrace NE and Cassell Place NE when it struck a pedestrian. The driver called police and informed them of the incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries Friday, police said. She was identified as Samanta Iqbal of Northeast, DC.

NBC Washington reports Iqbal was a George Mason University student just weeks away from graduation, and was struck and killed steps from her home.
