A ticket lottery opens Thursday for a chance to score free tickets to the 95th Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A ticket lottery opens Thursday for a chance to score free tickets to the 95th Annual National Christmas Tree Lighting, held on the Ellipse at President's Park at The White House Nov. 30.
The lottery will open at 10 a.m. Thursday and close at 10 a.m. Monday. Winners will get a free ticket to the ceremony, featuring the lighting of the National Christmas Tree and live performances, presented by The National Park Service and National Park Foundation.
The performances for this year's event have not yet been announced. Last year, musicians like Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, Garth Brooks and The Lumineers performed.

Winners will be notified by email after Oct. 30. If you didn't snag a ticket, you can watch the ceremony on the Hallmark Channel on Dec. 4.

The tradition started on Christmas Eve 1923 when President Calvin Coolidge decorated a 48-foot Balsam Fir tree with 2,500 electric bulbs.
