Injured D.C. Firefighter Goes Home After 3 Months In Hospital
D.C. firefighter Dane Smothers Jr., 28, will go home Wednesday, three months after he was critically injured while responding to a blaze.

WASHINGTON, DC — The rookie D.C. firefighter who was in critical condition after he was struck by a fire ladder truck will be discharged from the hospital Wednesday, according to D.C. Fire and EMS officials. Dane Smothers Jr., 28, suffered the injury while responding to a rowhouse fire in Northeast on Aug. 2.
Smothers will be discharged from MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital Wednesday. He was originally a patient at MedStar Washington Hospital Center before he was transferred to the in-patient rehabilitation center in September. He has been in the hospital for three months.
Smothers was critically injured above the waist while responding to the two-alarm fire in the 800 block of F Street NE at around 11:30 p.m. that night.

"This incident reminds us all of the bravery and dedication of our first responders," Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a statement at the time of the accident. "We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude."
