IRS Headquarters Evacuated Due To Hazmat Situation: DC Fire
The IRS building was evacuated Friday morning due to a hazmat incident, authorities say.

WASHINGTON, DC — Authorities have since given the all-clear after the IRS headquarters in D.C. was evacuated Friday morning after a hazmat incident, authorities say.
Firefighters responded to 1111 Constitution Avenue NW to investigate overheated storage batteries used for backup purposes, D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted at 10:19 a.m.
"No injuries reported," they added. "Building fully evacuated due to abundance of caution due to possible fumes associated with this issue."

D.C. Fire and EMS added at around 11 a.m. that hazmat personnel had entered the building to evaluate the situation in the storage battery room, after which they will then determine the best course of action.
Later, they indicated that the situation was deemed under control and building maintenance would take it over from there.
