Major Road Closures In DC This Weekend For 'Run For The Badge'

Police will be shutting down multiple roads in downtown for the National Law Enforcement Run for the Badge 5K.

WASHINGTON, DC — The National Law Enforcement Run for the Badge 5K will take place this weekend in D.C., and that means multiple road closures in the vicinity.

Authorities will shut down E Street between 4th and 5th streets NW from 4 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Police will also close the following roads from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m.:

  • 5th Street between E Street and F Street, NW
  • F Street between 5th Street and 3rd Street, NW
  • 3rd Street between F Street and D Street, SW
  • D Street between 3rd Street and 4th Street, SW
  • 4th Street between D Street and Independence Avenue, SW
  • Independence Avenue between 7th Street and 3rd Street, SW

"The public should expect parking restrictions along the street and should be guided by the posted emergency no parking signage," the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. "All vehicles that are parked in violation of the emergency no parking signs will be ticketed and towed."

The Run for the Badge, which kicks off at 9 a.m., aims to raise $100,000 in honor of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The run begins at the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial across the street from the National Building Museum. Online registration has closed, but you can register on site.

"This will be an incredible day for us to honor the sacrifice and celebrate the service of America’s law enforcement officers," the website states. "While you aren't required to fundraise for this event, we highly encourage you to do so."
