Man Climbs Up National Christmas Tree Near White House
The man climbed down of his own accord and was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, park officials said.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man climbed up the National Christmas tree on Friday before coming down on his own, according to a statement from The National Park Service.
The man came down of his own accord after climbing 15-20 feet up the National Christmas Tree, the statement from NPS said. Officials from the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Park Police and D.C. Fire/EMS responded to the scene shortly after the man climbed up the tree around 5:45 p.m.
He was transferred to a hospital for evaluation. The site is closed and the lights will remain off until officials can assess for damage.

The National Christmas tree is located at President's Park across from The White House. A statement on the National Christmas Tree's website says the site is closed during the partial government shutdown.
The holiday performance in the park on Saturday, the last of the season, is canceled.
