WASHINGTON, DC -- A man is fighting for his life after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in D.C. on Monday morning, according to a report.

WTOP reports that the man was critically injured in the fire, which broke out at around 8:45 a.m. in a garden-style apartment complex in the 4700 block of Benning Road SE.

The victim has life-threatening injuries, the report states.

The fire was contained to a single apartment on the third floor. A cat was found dead along with the injured man.
