Man Suffocates To Death In Northeast Home: Police

DC Police are investigating a homicide that left one man dead from asphyxiation in a Northeast home.

WASHINGTON, DC — DC Police are investigating a homicide that left one man dead from asphyxiation in a Northeast home Saturday night.

Police were called to investigate "trouble" in the 1700 block of Benning Rd. NE at about 10:04 p.m. Saturday.

Arriving officers entered the home and found a man unconscious and unresponsive, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An autopsy performed Sunday confirmed the man died from asphyxiation, or suffocation. The death was ruled a homicide and the victim's name is being withheld until his family is notified, police said.

Police offer rewards of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in a homicide. Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.
