Metro Police Investigating Fatal Car And Pedestrian Crash

Police say the driver of the car, which hit the pedestrian causing fatal injuries, stayed on the scene.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metropolitan police are investigating a Friday traffic death in the 1400 block of North Capitol Street NW, according to a release from the department. The crash happened around 5:15 a.m., police say, involving one car and one pedestrian.

Police say the victim was walking to the east side, mid-block, when a sedan hit them.

The driver stayed on the scene, police say, and DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded, bringing the victim to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead from their injuries.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.
