Metro Puts DC Headquarters Up For Sale
Metro has put its headquarters in downtown D.C. on the market.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The building that Metro calls home in downtown D.C. is being put on the market, WMATA announced in a statement.
"Metro today announced that it is offering its downtown DC headquarters site - home to the Jackson Graham Building - for development under a long-term ground lease," the statement reads. "The offering is extremely rare in the DC real estate market, both in terms of location and size and represents a prime opportunity to re-develop the site for future high-density office, residential, hotel or mixed-use development."
The site spans 1.1 acres (48,401 square feet and a whole city block, located down the street from Capitol One Arena.

Metro would retain ownership of the property, so any development would have to generate revenue for Metro to support bus and rail operations, WMATA says.
Metro purchased a building near L'Enfant Plaza back in October to serve as its new headquarters.

Metro has operated out of the headquarters, also called the Jackson Graham Building, since 1974.
Metro plans to vacate by December 2022.
"Maximizing the value of our downtown property is in the best interest of Metro, the District, our employees and our riders," said Metro General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld in the statement. "While the Jackson Graham Building has been our home for more than 40 years, the revenue that will be generated by the redevelopment of this property is an investment in Metro's future."
