OPM Alters Operating Status For DC-Area Federal Employees Thursday
The Office of Personnel Management updated its operating status for all federal offices in the greater Washington, D.C., area on Thursday.
WASHINGTON, DC — Federal offices in the greater Washington, DC area open and employees have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework on Thursday, according to the Office of Personnel Management.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday. Forecasters anticipate a mix of light freezing rain, sleet, and snow starting Wednesday evening. That precipitation could transition into a steady freezing rain Wednesday night.

OPM issued the following instructions on Wednesday night:
- Telework Employees Not Scheduled to Telework must report to the office on time or notify their supervisor of their intent to use unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework. Employees who request unscheduled telework must be prepared to telework, take unscheduled leave or other paid time off, or a combination-thereby accounting for the entire workday.
- Remote Workers and Telework Employees Scheduled to Telework are expected to begin their workday on time unless requesting unscheduled leave.
- Non-Telework Employees must report to the office on time or notify their supervisor of their intent to use unscheduled leave.
- Emergency Employees are expected to report to their worksites on time unless otherwise directed by their agencies.
