• ‘Haldis,' the Norwegian Lundehund, Is a Rare Breed and an Agility Natural (akc.org) — A rare Norwegian Lundehund named Haldis is being raised and trained in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area as she heads to the 2025 AKC National Championship. Her owner, local yoga instructor and breeder Kristina Maze, is passionate about the breed’s unusual flexibility, extra toes, and historic puffin-hunting skills, and often educates curious neighbors who stop her on area streets.

• Engine failure forces Tokyo-bound United Airlines flight to return to DC-area airport (nypost.com) — A Tokyo-bound United flight returned safely to Dulles after an engine failure, briefly sending smoke into the air at the Washington region’s main international airport. No injuries were reported among nearly 300 people onboard, a small fire from engine debris was quickly extinguished, and federal officials say they’re investigating while United works to rebook passengers.
