Power Outages Friday Close Some Smithsonian Museums

Several museums are closed Friday due to power outages; the Air & Space Museum has power, remains open.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Power outages Friday have closed down several Smithsonian museums on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., according to messages posted to social media by the museums.

Temperatures in the DC metro area Friday are in the mid to high 90s, with "feels like" temperatures of 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The museums impacted by the 292 outages in DC reported Friday afternoon by Pepco include:

The National Museum of the American Indian reported their outage at about 12:40 p.m.

The Smithsonian Castle, as well as the Air & Space Museum, both report they are air-conditioned and open Friday.
