WASHINGTON, DC -- It's been hot in D.C. lately. Too hot for the scooters that litter the sidewalks, apparently.

A Skip e-scooter near Franklin Square was caught on video cooking in the early summer heat on Thursday morning, likely because its battery had failed.

The Washington Post reports that the scooter was near the corner of 14th and I streets NW in front of a Compass Coffee.

The Post noted that authorities were investigating the issue to see if fire incidents involving the scooters are something they should be concerned about. It's not clear what caused the fire: heat is a possibility, as is abuse of the scooter itself resulting in damage to the battery.
