Stunning Lightning Bolt Stretches 15 Miles Across DC (Video)
Amazing footage and data of a lightning strike that was captured above the Tidal Basin was shared on social media.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Here's something that will make you see lightning in a whole new light: an incredible video of a bolt that stretched more than 15 miles across D.C.
The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang shared both the video of it striking above the Tidal Basin and a 3D graphic (both embedded below) that show the astonishing reach of the lightning bolt.
It produced 709 impulses ranging from 1.2 to 8.7 miles above the Earth and reached 15.5 miles west to east, from the Potomac River to east of Andrews Air Force Base, CWG said.
