Suspect Arrested For Suffocating Man To Death In Northeast

A DC man has been arrested for a murder that left a man dead from asphyxiation​ in a Northeast home.

WASHINGTON, DC — A DC man has been arrested for a murder that left a man dead from asphyxiation in a Northeast home last week.

Samuel Davis, 59, of Northeast was arrested for the Saturday, Oct. 28 murder of Mawuli Kocuvie, 53, of Northeast. Davis is charged with first-degree murder, police said.

Police were called to investigate "trouble" in the 1700 block of Benning Rd. NE at about 10:04 p.m. Oct. 28. Arriving officers entered the home and found Kocuvie unconscious and unresponsive, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An autopsy confirmed the man died from asphyxiation, or suffocation, and the death was ruled a homicide.
