Top 5 Things To Do In DC For Labor Day 2019
Take advantage of an extra day off this Labor Day to experience the best of D.C.
WASHINGTON, DC — Looking for something to do this upcoming Labor Day? If you're in D.C., you've got some great options for relaxing on the unofficial last day of summer as you gear up for a hectic school year. Here is -- in our opinion -- the top five things to do in D.C. this Labor Day.
1. Visit the African-American History Museum
The story of labor in America can't be told without exploring the history of African-Americans, and there's no better place in the world to do that in the National Museum of African American History and Culture -- "a museum that seeks to understand American history through the lens of the African-American experience," the website states. The museum is open every day from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., including Labor Day. Admission is free.

2. Watch the National Symphony Orchestra's Labor Day Concert
The Sunday before Labor Day, the National Symphony Orchestra will perform a free Labor Day weekend concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol starting at 8 p.m. You'll get to experience "vocalists Mykal Kilgore and Nova Payton in a program of popular songs by R&B hitmakers including Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, James Brown, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, and others," according to The Kennedy Center website.

3. Go to the Wharf, and take a Duck
The Wharf -- the totally rebuilt area in Southwest D.C. -- is the perfect place to enjoy the last summer evenings. There are tons of restaurants and a brand new concert venue, The Anthem. And that's to say nothing of the seafood market. Once you're done with that, take a 90-minute DC Duck Sightseeing Tour to experience the best of D.C. on land and on the river.
4. Check out the new International Spy Museum
The International Spy Museum has fully moved into its new location in L'Enfant Plaza, so now's your chance to check it out. Admission is $22.95 for anyone 13 and over on Labor Day, and the museum is open from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. "The new International Spy Museum at L'Enfant Plaza is now open!" reads the website. "With interactive exhibitions and installations, the foremost collection of spy artifacts in the world, and first-person accounts from top intelligence officers and experts, the new Museum places visitors in the shoes of the spies."
5. Visit the National Museum of American History
Labor Day isn't just a Monday off -- it's an important commemoration of the tremendous strides made by labor in this country's history. You can pay tribute to those who came before by visiting the National Museum of American History, and specifically the American Enterprise exhibit. "American Enterprise chronicles the tumultuous interaction of capitalism and democracy that resulted in the continual remaking of American business—and American life," reads the museum's website. "Visitors are immersed in the dramatic arc of labor, power, wealth, success, and failure in America in an 8,000-square-foot space focused on the role of business and innovation from the mid-1700s to the present."
