When the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning that included downtown D.C. and the National Mall in the middle of the afternoon on Thursday, it led to this ominous announcement over the loudspeakers in the U.S. Capitol (video embedded below):

"Due to severe weather, Capitol complex staff and visitors are directed to move to a severe weather shelter location, stay indoors and away from exterior windows and doors, or seek other means of shelter."

A tornado warning means that meteorologists have spotted rotation on radar that usually indicates a tornado.
