WASHINGTON, DC — The Trump Organization is trying to sell its Washington, D.C., hotel, even though the hotel opened in the renovated Old Post Office Building just three years ago, according to reports.

Representatives for the Trump Organization say they are making the move partly because of accusations Trump is profiting unethically off the property, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Real-estate firm JLL will market the Trump International Hotel, and a number of groups have expressed interest, Eric Trump said.

The hotel opened just two months before President Donald Trump's 2016 election win over Hillary Clinton. Ever since then, his opponents have claimed he has used it as a way for foreign governments to curry favor with him by funneling Trump money through the business.

Last year, an activist group tried to use the investigation into the Trump campaign and Russian collusion as a reason to rescind the liquor license of the hotel, and the Liquor Board reviewed the request, holding a public hearing on the matter.

In a statement, a local activist group said attorney Joshua Levy is seeking to have the liquor license revoked due to "Mr. Trump's failure to meet the good character threshold required in the District of Columbia for the 'true and actual owner of an establishment licensed to serve alcoholic beverages.'"

The challenge was struck down.

The Old Post Office Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the most prominent buildings in downtown D.C. At 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, it is situated just blocks from the White House. Construction began on the building in 1892 and it was completed in 1899. It was used as the main General Post Office in D.C. until 1914.

The building underwent a major renovation in 1983, which included several upgrades.
