Washington Capitals To Visit White House Monday: Report

WASHINGTON, DC -- With just a few weeks left before this year's playoffs begin, last year's Stanley Cup Champions -- the Washington Capitals -- will finally make their White House visit, according to a report.

The Washington Post reports that the Capitals will continue an NHL tradition of sending the champions to visit the president at the White House on Monday, March 25.

Champions of the other major sports leagues also typically visit the White House, but such visits have become controversial in recent years with President Trump's election. The Philadelphia Eagles and Golden State Warriors did not visit the White House after their championships.

Forwards Devante Smith-Pelly and Brett Connolly said they would skip the White House visit. Smith-Pelly criticized Trump as "racist and sexist," and Connolly reportedly said he didn't think visiting the president would be "the right thing to do."

Most other players indicated they would attend, however.
