Washington, D.C. Weather Forecast: When Will it Cool Down?

We'll creep away from these record highs, but don't expect significant cooling anytime soon, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat is something we're going to have to get used to, at least for the rest of the week, according to forecasters.

As of 2pm, Dulles International Airport set a record daily high of 99 degrees.Downtown Baltimore hit 100 degrees for the first time since July 2013, and BWI Airport tied its 100-degree record.

The heat index, or "feels like" temperature, may still climb to 111 degrees Monday afternoon.

The good news is that Monday might be the hottest day we see this week. The bad news is that temperatures will only drop a few degrees, and continue to be uncomfortably warm.

The rest of the week will see temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s, with the daily threat of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Heat index values will be as much as 101 degrees on Tuesday and in the high 90s for the rest of the week.

Temperatures will cool slightly, but it'll be some time before we feel "cool," according AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott.

"With no strong pushes of cool air from Canada on the horizon, people from the mid-Atlantic to the Deep South can expect virtually no relief from the high heat and humidity," Elliott said.

The weekend sees temperatures drop to around 90 degrees, with a slightly better chance for wet weather.

By next Monday, Aug. 1, the heat wave will be a distant memory, with temperatures finally reaching only 88 degrees.
