Washington, D.C., To Host 2023 MLS All-Star Game
The announcement comes shortly after a Washington, D.C.-Baltimore combined bid for a World Cup host site was not selected.
WASHINGTON DC — D.C. United's Audi Field was selected as the host site for the 2023 MLS All-Star Game, the league announced Thursday.
It is the third time the nation's capital will host the game and the first since D.C. United moved into Audi Field in 2018. The city hosted the showcase in Washington in 2002 and 2004 at RFK Stadium.
"There was very little question that we were going to bring an All-Star game to Audi Field," MLS Commissioner Don Garber said at a news conference. "I can't wait to see what this is going to be next summer. It's a great honor for us to have our all-star game here."

The format of the game has not been announced. In 2021, the MLS All-Stars played All-Stars from Liga MX and will do the same in this year's game Aug. 10 at Allianz Field in Minneapolis.
"I am looking forward to the All-Star game and everything we can do together to promote sport, show off our city and get people excited and engaged," Mayor Muriel Bowser said. "There's a real economic benefit to it, but there's also a happiness and pride benefit to it. We are proud to welcome the All-Star Game to Washington DC next summer."

Washington received the All-Star bid a few days after officials revealed its combined bid with Baltimore to host games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup was not one of the 16 sites in the United States, Mexico and Canada that made the final cut.
Washington was one of nine venues for the 1994 World Cup, the last time soccer's premier event was hosted in the United States.
