Washington Monument Elevator Malfunctions Days After Opening
The Washington Monument's elevator had a brief hiccup over the weekend, days after it reopened from a three-year renovation project.
WASHINGTON, DC — The Washington Monument has finally reopened after a three-year renovation, but the new elevator immediately had a problem over the weekend.
The elevator went down for about an hour before it came back online, the National Mall NPS Twitter account said on Saturday.
"We apologize to our visitors who were inconvenienced," they wrote. "Normal operations have resumed and tours are running on schedule."

The Washington Monument has been shut down to visitors more than it has been open in the last decade. It was shut down for three years following the 2011 earthquake that damaged the structure, and then shut down against for the renovations starting in September 2016 after repeated problems with the elevator breaking down.
