Washington Monument To Reopen Very Soon: NPS

The Washington Monument is scheduled to reopen next month.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Washington Monument has been closed for the past three years for renovations, but visitors will soon get to ascend to its peak once again.

The National Park Service released a statement announcing that the Washington Monument would reopen to the public on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 9 a.m., ending a 37-month closure that largely involved modernizing the elevator control system and the construction of a new security screening facility.

Visitors can get same-day tickets for tours through Oct. 18 on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Washington Monument Lodge on 15th Street betwen Madison and Jefferson Drives. The monument will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. every day.
