WASHINGTON, DC -- The Washington Redskins will get Denver Broncos quarterback Case Keenum in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2020 draft, according to multiple sources. Additionally, the Redskins will get a 2020 seventh rounder from the Broncos.

Keenum famously led the Minnesota Vikings to a 13-3 record in the 2017 season culminating in a miracle last-second win against the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs, before being blown out by the eventual champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship game. That offseason, the Broncos signed him to a two-year, $36 million contract, but Denver finished with a disappointing 6-10 record and fired their coach.

Keenum's base salary is $18 million, but only $7 million is guaranteed, and the Redskins and Broncos are splitting that sum, according to an ESPN report. The move allows the Broncos to get rid of Keenum without having to take on $10 million in "dead money."

The Redskins went through a carousel of quarterbacks during the 2018 season due to injuries. Their high-profile offseason signing, Alex Smith, had a promising start to the season but suffered a compound fracture in his right leg that resulted in multiple surgeries, and experts believe he is not likely to play in 2019.

That leaves Colt McCoy, who is now entering his sixth season with the Redskins, but has always been seen as the backup rather than as a long-term starter.
